    48 Hours of Madness Banner

After the Credits co-host Colleen has finally lost her marbles. I’ve been sensing for a while that she was nearing the breaking point but this could be proof that she’s gone over the edge.

During the first weekend of August (in BC it happens to be a long weekend), Colleen will be inflicting a whole mess of pain on herself for the sake of local children. For 48 hours, with only minimal breaks and no sleeping, she’ll watch as many movies as can be crammed into 2 full days. Hence 48 Hours of Madness.

Though you can choose the amount of your donation, for $20 you get to pick one of the movies she gets to see and if there happens to be an overabundance of donations, the film suggestions will be randomly drawn from the selections made by the kind hearted individuals who shelled out their hard earned dollars. To make the entire thing that much more interesting, if she collects more than $1000, she’ll be doing this entire thing without caffeine. Like I said, I think she’s completely lost it now.

I love this girl but I’m ready to inflict some pain. While most folks would turn away from b-moves, Colleen revels in them and so, I’m digging deep to find the cheesiest, tween romance I can think of. It appears Honey may already be on the list so I’m thinking maybe Material Girls, First Daughter or perhaps a little Disney is coming her way. The jury is still out on that one.

For more information on the event, all the dirty details and how to donate, be sure to head over to the official website.

Flipper, Garbage Pail Kids, that movie with Matt Le Blanc and a monkey, Air Bud, anything by Tarkovsky, Rugrats, Colossal Youth (only film I have fallen asleep watching in the theater).

  2. Kurt Halfyard says:

Just go thru the entire library of Disney Cheapquels:

Cinderella II & III, Lion King 1.5, Aladdin II, Bambi II, Lady & The Tramp II, Kronk’s New Groove, etc. etc.

  3. Marina Antunes says:

I have a soft spot for Pedro Costa. Colossal Youth was trying but I did, in the end, enjoy it a great deal.

  4. rot says:

I thought Colossal Youth looked beautiful, and I loved the concept, and the actors, it was the repetition that killed me.

  5. rot says:

Remind us closer to the date, I will try and set up a paypal… been meaning to forever.

  6. Colleen says:

LOL …. I hate you all!

Wait there was a Lion King 1.5? Weird

Yes, I’ll remind you all. Its for a fantastic cause, and well… you can give me a DVD equivant of a bitch slap!

  7. Andrew James says:

I’ll chip in for sure. Maybe not the $20, but here at RowThree, we’re doin it for the kids.

  8. Marina Antunes says:

Yes, on the whole very repetitive but perhaps it’s some deep rotted cultural thing that keeps me going back to him. Unfortunately, I have yet to find any of his films on DVD around here and haven’t felt the urge to spend a huge amount on imports and frankly, I’m fairly sure I’d likely not re-watch many of his films but I do love what he’s getting at, even if how he gets there is often long drawn, occasionally too much so.

  9. Cheapquels! Great word Kurt!

I’m thinking a different vein… like The American President, City of Angels… oh.. The Lake House? Wait.. I liked most of those..

  10. rot says:

ugh City of Angels… once is enough. that is too cruel

  11. leeny says:

The American President… Was that the one with Bill Paxton..or the other guy whose not Bill Paxton (you know who I am talking about)

  12. Andrew James says:

Ugh. The Lake House. The original Asian version I liked well enough, but the english version with Bullock/Reeves is painfully stupid.

  13. Andrew James says:

and The American Prez was Michael Douglas and Annette Bening.

  14. Kurt Halfyard says:

Agreed that the American version of City of Angels was like 100 minutes of fingernails on the chalk-board compared to the nuanced Wim Wenders version, Wings of Desire. (Ganz rulez)

Still, on the subject of the acclaimed German director, a sleep-inducing misfire from Wenders would be the curio “The End of Violence” which isn’t a terrible movie per se, but it is slow to the point of being an attention-challenge. Try watching that one at 3am and making it thru.

  15. rot says:

oh yes the End of Violence, another film I saw in the theater and could barely stay awake.

  16. Dave says:

I’m in as well. I’ll try and pick a film that’s compelling enough to keep your attention, no matter how many hours may have already passed (I was tempted to request that she watch Russian Ark at the 24-hour mark. I love the film, but I’m guessing it would have been a REAL challenge to stay awake).

Won’t do that, though…I’ll pick a good one for you, Colleen.

  17. leeny says:

I don’t get to choose the order of films. That way I might have to watch a trilogy well out of order :D . Only two rules for film choice. Nothing over 2 1/2 hours (I’m getting donation by movie, so a 10 hour movie steals from the charity), and no foreign films (not sure I could read subtitles after 30+ hours).

Seriously thinking of dragging the treadmill into the screening room, so that I could keep myself awake with some of the “reel” dogs!
