On The Doll: Scaring Men Everywhere

On the Doll Movie StillHere’s a little something that’s bound to scare away all of the men. If you thought the surgery scene in Hard Candy was brutal, it’s got nothing on this. Slade’s scene works on a number of levels mostly because of the craftsmanship and while something similar could be at play here, I doubt that this is the case.

On The Doll is the first film from music video director Thomas Mignone and it stars up-and-coming horror movie diva Brittany Snow. According to the official website, the film intertwines the stories of a number of child abuse victims that “wander through their disaffected lives searching for meaning, while falling into patterns that lead to more pain”. The film could very well be powerful but it looks like most of the attention it’s getting is because of the brutality.

Watching the trailer, I must say I’m curious. I really love the muted colours and the general aesthetic of the film, plus it helps that some of the visuals are a little on the disturbing side. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it.

The trailer, which in itself is pretty brutal, is tucked under the seat or in better quality here. However, the clip folks seem to be latching onto is this one which is probably not safe for most workplaces but that didn’t stop me from seeing it.

On the Doll will be available on-lilne and on DVD on June 17th.

  1. Heard this was the bad joke of the Austin Film Fest. After reviewing this for myself its more then easy to see why. First off the script comes across as being written by a dirty old man enjoying himself more then the audience would ever as he imagines the lives of low life uncared for teenagers. . The 99% untried actors try to handle the unlikely all over the place fantasy story but there are prolems to the right and left.

They should mention the cheap background sets in the description on the cover of the dvd. One was suposed to be an eatery that was clearly someones house. Most of the rest were pretty terrible. I’m probably going to have to say its the only fun part of the cheap movie to watch. Unless your a deviant who gets off on watching abused children I’d stay away of this. I thought it would be decent quality..i was wrong.
