So much for it going live tomorrow

Last week we had a glimpse at the poster for Clark Gregg’s adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke starring Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston and Kelly Macdonald. The film has Rockwell as a sex-addicted con-man who pays for his mother’s hospital bills by playing on the sympathies of those who rescue him from choking to death.

Though I wasn’t particularly impressed by the poster, I do admit that the description does sound rather humorous and it helps a whole lot that the trailer is pretty funny as well. I’m in.

Choke opens in limited release on September 26th.

Looks pretty good. I like the sarcasm and humor. This one goes on the list to see.

Sam Rockwell is beautifully cast. This is going to quickly become Palahniuk’s second big-time cult classic. If you haven’t yet, do yourself a favor and go read the book.

I’m pretty sure, cinematically that Choke is aiming to be a lot smaller in scope than fight club. I don’t think Clark & co. are going to come close (visually) to Fincher and company and I don’t think that is the aim. But i do think the film will suffer in the critical and audience reactions…perhaps.

Critically you may be right Kurt, as the film is stylistically very different and the tone of the film varies pretty wildly throughout the movie. Critics tend to not like that sort of thing. But the audience I saw loved it, and I think it will be something people will like, if they actually go see it.
