  4. This actually looks really similar to how I pictured it in my head when I read the book.

  5. That image is fantastic! :)

  6. Nice. VERY NICE.

We should read the book together. Seriously. Mark the calendar and just start reading. I’m in for it if anyone else is interested.

  7. I will totally take you up on that Marina!

  8. Wasn’t it supposed to be really cloudy and dark? As in dark as night during the day?

  9. Who knows how much further post-production is going to be done on the film. I like the looks of the actors faces and clothes. Seems pretty dark to me.

  10. @Shannon - Alright. We should totally do this. I’ll stop by the bookstore this weekend to pick up a copy!

  11. I’m glad it’s Viggo Mortensen playing the father. I didn’t realize it, but that’s exactly how I pictured the novel. This film might be so horrifying, but in the best ways.

  12. @Marina - I’m picking up the book today! :)

  13. I haven’t read the book but you guys are almost convincing me to read it. I used to read a lot but just haven’t had the time in the past few years to sit down and read. I spend all my time with movies, on the web and with the family.

    I am tempted though.

  14. Best book I’ve read in the past 10 years. Yes, John, yes. Read this book.

  15. I also liked the book but I have to caution that it is not your typical book, its simple and repetitive and bleak and unrelenting. I think of it as the literary version of something like VanSant’s Gerry, something that pushes you to the limit of comfort in order to feel something unexpected.

  17. Finished the book. Surprizingly good, and quick, read.

  18. Its funny, The Road is McCarthy at his most laconic, limited vocabulary, short and to the point yet it has the same underlying brutal vision of humanity that Blood Meridian has, but which stylistically is on the other end of the spectrum altogether… a page does not go by where I am not learning a new word… the story is caked in description and you realize he is pushing a very specific vision, down to background set-design.

  19. i did my senior thesis on this book. it was extremely difficult due to the depth of the novel and lack of criticism done. It is an amazing story and it is, like you all said, how i pictured it in my mind. For me this movie cant come soon enough.
