LEO Awards Film Festival [Vancouver]
The LEO Awards has been celebrating excellence in BC production for a decade. Every year, the group puts together a nice little film festival of the nominated films and this year is no exception.
The Pacific Cinémathèque is hosting the festival which features the best of the films shot in BC and there are some great titles in the lineup including Carl Bessai’s Normal (our review), the award winning She’s a Boy I Knew, Stuart Townsend’s Battle in Seattle, Confessions of an Innocent Man, John Zaritsky’s The Suicide Tourist and the multi-award winning documentary Saving Luna. Be sure to check out the Cinémathèque for the full schedule.
The First Weekend Club is supporting the LEO’s by hosting “Talkback - A Film Artist Salon with LEO Award Nominees”. That event is taking place on Thursday May 22nd at Cinema 319 and will feature a discussion with Carl Bessai, Blake Corbett, Colin Cunningham, Caroline Coutts and Gwen Haworth. For tickets to that event and information on how to get in free, be sure to check out the FWC.
Looks like next week will be chalk full of good BC film! If you’re in town, be sure to check out the various events and who knows, maybe I’ll see you there!

Looking forward to the festival. Although, I’m more interested in vancouver music than in film, this festival looks very interesting, nonetheless. So, count me in. It’s always nice to enrich your own spectrum of knowledge.
