Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona Trailer

by Marina Antunes
May 13th, 2008

Vicky Christina Barcelona Movie StillI‘m not a huge fan of Woody Allen but I’ve liked a few of his most recent films and when you throw Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem into a mix, I’m likely to pay more attention.

Such is the case with Allen’s upcoming Vicky Christina Barcelona which stars Bardem as a painter who starts a relationship with two American tourists. If getting mixed up with two women at the same time isn’t bad enough, things take a turn for the worst when his jealous ex-girlfriend, I’m assuming this is Cruz, finds out.

Scarlett Johansson makes a return appearance, her third in an Allen film, and though I’m not a huge fan of hers, I do love Bardem and Cruz and those two are enough to sell me on the project. The film premieres at Cannes this week and will open in limited release in the US on August 29th.

There’s a new trailer kicking around for the film but it doesn’t appear to be an official trailer considering that there’s not dialog, just moving images set to music but you sort of get the gist of the story and we get to see Bardem and crew in action and that’s enough for me.

Trailer is tucked under the seat!

  1. Certainly looks like a sell/promo item and not a normal trailer. I don’t think it gets me excited for the film, despite the bucketload of implied sex scenes, including a Cruz/Johannson onscreen smooch.

  2. Probably right about it being a promo, but I kind of like the general idea of this kind of marketing - just a few snippets to give you the gist. The song works well too.

Oh, and a Latina getting jealous? That never happens does it?

  3. The folks at Screen.com really, really, really liked VCB. Now ‘Allen has finally returned to form’ is a phrase uttered often enough to be a cliche at this point, but here you go:
