You bring your mixtape skills, Matt :P

actually I do occassionally "compete" with friends, making mixtapes on a common theme, usually literary. The last one I did was the Bible and, as I say in my blurb, it is possibly so good that it would make non-believers convert. I also have a very good Wuthering Heights mix for the ladies out there.

Before my girlfriend was "my girlfriend" I made her a mix tape to listen to on one of her rides to Brainerd. The mixtape had the general theme of a sociopath and his relationship with women. It started simply enough with a plain ol crush, worked its way up to stalking, rape, murder and culminating with a great little punk song about the joys of necrophelia. The point is, I know how to make a goddamn artistic mixtape muthafucka!!!

That all being said, would anyone trust John Favreau to attempt such a thing? It's simply neither his style nor his forte, and him attempting it would only inevitably result in the visual equivalent of Happy Gilmore's Finger Paintings.

I mean Christ, it's like expecting the kid with one right arm to go left during pick up hoops. And there rot is chastizing the poor bastard about it.

May looks promising.

"The trailers make this look like a special effects only movie which I’m sure will delight everyone in their teens."

??? Does that mean I'm a teen because I think this looks like fun - even if the trailer does scare Kurt's little girl.

INDY!!!!! I must admit I've been sitting back on the excitement for this one but sitting in a packed theater on Friday watching "Raiders: The Adaptation" amped the excitement for this one through the roof!

As for Narnia...not sure what to make of this. The first one was bland but this one looks a slightly bit darker. Not that that alone makes it a better film but it looks like it could be fun.

And I'm all up for The Strangers.

I guess the ACDC song in the opening moments foreshadows exactly what you are going to get with Ironman, an effort that does not deviate from the formula, I hate to say that all of ACDCs music is the same (usually a sign of someone who cannot see the nuance or is immediately prejudiced), but in the cast of ACDC, that IS the truth. Make of that what you will.

While I'm aware of the very basics in the Tony Stark / Ironman mythology, I've never read the comic to attest to the veracity of adaptation details. But slavishly faithful adaptation killed the Harry Potter franchise out of the gate and shackled the franchise as the books got significantly bigger, but the films were held to 2h15m run-times.

absolute nonsense Matt... and I should know because I make great mixtapes... and much the way Tarantino has a penchant for repurposing songs that put in different context have new resonances, so does a mixtaper have the artistic license to link tracks according to some inner logic, which when played in sequence make some different, bring out hidden meanings to lyrics. Concerns of original meaning of the song no longer apply, how dreadfully boring to just string together songs according to artist's intent (isn't that what they already did when they made the album?)

Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.

No Kurt, apparently Iron Man is good because it stays true to the source material, and by the same token an adaptation of Richie Rich would also be good so long as this arrangement is maintained.

Concerns of cinema need not apply to fanboy purists, its about having their toys properly pixelated.

As to the post at hand, May actually looks alright. I can't wait for Indy (the new trailer looks great with a lot more Cate Blanchett- you can never have too much Cate).

Strangers, Postal and Red Belt on top of that... Yes. Could finally be a decent month.

As for Sex and the City... like, gag me with a spoon.
And I couldn't care less about more Narnia.

This is the second comment you've made Kurt assuming that I would like this movie. I can't understand that at all. You know I hate comic book movies - well, the super hero ones anyway. My expectations for this thing were so low I can't tell you.

Were they met? Have to wait for our review or the Cinecast tomorrow.

**Mild Spoilers** Oh, it wasn't just the wall punch that reminded me of Verhoeven's film. The Obadaih suit had many ED209 moments, the Mad Money segment felt like "I'd buy that for a dollar" - lite. And dancing stewardess strippers are not quite the replacement for sniffing coke off a a callgirls tits. There were many more moments I noted while watching, but the Ironman is slowly slipping out of my brain...

Just saw Ironmanl I didn't know I was getting into Robocop in Spiderman's (er Stan Lee's) clothing. Not plot or anything, but many, many visuals were cribbed from Verhoeven's film that it's kind of embarrassing for Jon Favreau to label this films as "A Jon Favreau Film" - This goes just a tad past homage...Oh, and a whiff of Tron (A little repurposing a la V for Vendetta's John Hurt of a good guy to a bad guy role. And the in-suit colour palette) in there for good measure.

Almost all of the good RDJ was in the marketing materials, which is sad, because the rest of the picture is workmanlike to a fault. I went in expecting paint by numbers only to find out that the whole thing only had about 3 numbers to paint.

AC fuckin DC? Puhleeze. I think I'd rather watch the high camp of Maximum Overdrive.

I hope you liked the film Andrew, because this should be a fun cinecast if so.

Welcome to Summer '08.

Can't wait for REDBELT to cleanse the palette.

(posted here, because the Incredible Hulk and The Happening Threads (although rife with Ironman postmortem and how it fits the state of the blockbuster nation is discussed there, I couldn't decided where, and here is a good as place as any.)

Oh, and a further question to anyone reading this. Who more benefited from the casting of RDJ, the the Ironman film? (which would have been hilariously similar to the stink of MI:3 if they did cast The Cruise) or RDJ who might get some higher profile projects. I'd rather take him in more Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and A Scanner Darklys.

Re: Iron Man

Have not seen the movie yet but I'm a long time fan of the title and it looks promising as far as story line accuracy goes... There's the expected changes (e.g. Iron Man was originally "born" during the Vietnam conflict) but they can be excused for much given the age of the series and the need to sell it to the current audience. Casting RDJ as Stark, on the surface, may seem strange, but at least he's got the look. (I never thought any of the casted Bruce Waynes really got it right.) Hopefully he can pull of the character, although, despite my having read Iron Man pretty religiously for quite some time (on hold for now... gotta grow up eventually and sometimes mortgage trumps comics), I never really got a good feel for the man in the armour. He's got a difficult 'feel' to pin down which may work in RDJ's favour or not. We'll see, I suppose. The only other one I care about is Rhodes (since I also bought War Machine regularly - about him as continuing past his stint as Iron Man) but I think Howard is a good fit despite his look not being quite right.

The only other one I care about is Rhodes (since I also bought War Machine regularly – about him as continuing past his stint as Iron Man) but I think Howard is a good fit despite his look not being quite right.

I hope this is helpful. If there is anything you'd like to see added to the subsequent months feel free to let me know and I'll see about adding them. I'm off to Edmonton for some work training but once I'm back at home I'll post the rest up.
