Doomsday DVD to be Longer than Theatrical Run!

by Andrew James
May 2nd, 2008

This is good news! The more Doomsday that can be dished out, the better. Doomsday (RowThree review) is still my favorite film officially released in 2008 so far. Word comes from Richard, who attended the UK premiere of Doomsday last week at the Dead by Dawn festival, that Neil Marshall is planning on an extended cut of his newest film for the DVD release. How much longer we don’t know and exactly what will be included remains to be seen; but Richard’s chicken scratch transcription of Marshall’s Q&A after the screening went something like this:

There is going to be a longer cut for the DVD release, mainly around character building and more fighting for Adrian Lester who is a black belt in some martial arts.

He also talks about box office receipts:

The US box office performance “sucked” because the marketing was all wrong and they just “didn’t get it.”

Boy ain’t that the truth! There’re some other little nuggets of information over at filmstalker regarding Descent 2, Dog Soldiers 2 and more, so run over there and check it out.

  5. It’s a guilty pleasure, the sort of bon bon that doesn’t often come with that level of production design.

  6. I’m a big John Carpenter fan (also recently revisiting the Mad Max movies has made me a fanboy of George Miller - well, at least those films of his), so when his style is amped up to 11 and done very well, I’m all about the homage (damn near remake) of his films.
