It surprises me that in the ten years since my high school graduation, I’ve yet to see a film that accurately captures my high school experience. Maybe we’re not far enough removed from the era or perhaps it’s because nothing all that interesting happened in the 90′s but I’m still looking for that little film that takes me back to those awesome high school days and Remember the Daze (previous known as The Beautiful Ordinary) looks like it may be “the one”.
Directed by Jess Manafort, this comedy stars Douglas Smith (of “Big Love” fame) and John Robinson (who I instantly recognized as the kid from Gus Van Sant’ Elephant) and is a documentation of, according to IMDb, “the teenage wasteland of suburbia 1999 that takes place over 24-hours, and the teenagers who make their way through the last day of high school in the last year of the past millennium.”
The trailer starts off beautifully and quickly digresses into a typical looking high school comedy but just when I was about to give up on the possibility that this could be good, the trailer redeems itself. I’m not convinced this bodes well for the film but I’m also not willing to write it off just yet.
Remember the Daze opens in limited release on April 11th.
