I’ve been curious about Stuart Townsend’s directorial debut since September when the film played at VIFF. I couldn’t get around to seeing it but having been front and center at the APEC Summit in ’97 and following the WTO events unfold on television, I wanted to see how Townsend built a story around the protests. The film stars Martin Henderson, Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron, André Benjamin, Michelle Rodriguez and Ray Liotta.
Reviews have been mixed but I like what I see in the trailer and I particularly like the nearly seamless incorporation of archival footage with new material.
Battle In Seattle opens in September.
Blindness
Fernando Meirelles, Oscar nominated director of City of God and The Constant Gardner takes on award winning novel “Blindness” about a blindness epidemic which strikes an entire city and leaves only a woman with vision. The film stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael García Bernal, Alice Braga, Sandra Oh and Danny Glover.
I was on board with the project from the beginning but it was a review, care of one of our readers, that really got me excited and seeing this teaser only heightens the excitement. I particularly love Moore’s closing sentiment “The only thing more terrifying than blindness, is being the only one who can see”.
Blindness opens October 3rd.
More trailers tucked under the seat.
Directed by Daniel Myrick, one of the co-directors of The Blair Witch Project, the film focuses on a group of Special Ops Reservists on a mission in Afghanistan who find themselves lost in a Middle Eastern “Bermuda Triangle” of ancient evil.
Myrick has been working steadily since the release of his first film, even if it’s only been in direct to video productions of which I haven’t seen any. This trailer doesn’t do much for me but I do love a few of the visuals, particularly the one of the group following a woman dressed in blue. Maybe one to keep an eye out for on DVD.
At the moment, The Objective doesn’t have a North American release date although Arclight Films owns the world wide distribution rights.

seeing the trailer for Blindness reminds me high content of Canadian talent in the film… so far the best thing I have seen this year but that ain’t saying much.
The trailer doesnt do much for me but I will definately check out The Objective, one of the few who thought Blair Witch lived up to the hype. Where have these directors been?
Rot – I like “The Blair Witch Project”. I recently saw Eduardo Sánchez film “Altered” and it was a bit weird but still had great creep factor.
Myrick seems to have been busier with other films but this is the first one I’ve been really curious to see.
Hmmm, Blindness looks kind of interesting. It first caught my eye when I heard Don McKellar wrote the screenplay. Great cast too.
Chalk up another big fan of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT…a movie that makes me hate the haters!
