Iñárritu Directs Ads for The Meth Project

The Meth Project’s “Sisters” TV Ad StillIt’s not the first time we’ve seen respected directors lend their talents to good causes though it has been a little while since I’ve seen anyone talk about them. The most recent of the bunch is Alejandro González Iñárritu, Oscar nominated director of Babel, 21 Grams and Amores perros.

Iñárritu has directed three of the most recent television spots for The Meth Project, a Montana initiative which is “a large-scale prevention program aimed at reducing first-time meth use through public service messaging, public policy, and community outreach.” All of the ads are scary but Iñárritu’s have a very unique look compared to the rest and I was instantly reminded of the look of 21 Grams.

Here are the direct links to Iñárritu’s three 30 second spots: titled “Family“, “O.D.” and “Sister“, but all of the ads can be seen at The Meth Project’s home page.

Thanks to Ray Pride at Movie City Indie for the heads up.

  1. You could make one really sick film out of these, they’re so poignant.

  2. That was my thought watching them. On the one hand I can see the artistic value in them and on the other…I was more than a little disturbed.

  3. Want to throw out a huge reccommendation for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s BMW short “POWEDER KEG” . It stars the fabulous Stellen Skarsgard, and of course, Clive Owen who was in all of these.
