Boobs, Music and Animation: Heavy Metal is Back!

March 14th, 2008

Heavy Metal Original Movie PosterMy first introduction to “Heavy Metal” - the magazine, was through some D&D friends in long gone high school evenings spent in basements being über cool. The movie came later when I caught it on some late night cable special. Heck, I liked the original so much I actually went to a theater to see Heavy Metal 2000.

Don’t ask me what the message or story of these movies or even the magazine is because frankly, I can’t remember and really don’t care. What I do care for is kick-ass animation and fun stories of gorgeous babes kicking serious gluteus maximus (and peppered with some sexual content) and it looks like I, and you, will have a chance to take it all in on the big screen, care of director fantastique Mr. David Fincher.

According to Variety, Fincher will spearhead the project which will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different helmer. So far we have Fincher, Kevin Eastman (current “Heavy Metal” magazine owner) and Tim Miller (owner of Blur Studios - who will also be doing the animation) leading segments.

Bring. It. ON.

  1. “I was showing her the stars and stripes…forever” - classic Heavy Metal dialogue #1

“That’s my Lochnar. Bitch” - classic piece of Heavy Metal Dialogue #2

Also, the single best use ever of DEVO’s “Working in a Coal Mine” - as alien drug addicts consume massive quantities of cocaine….

I’m a big fan of the original. Didn’t dig on the 2000 version too much though…

  2. Heavy Metal is one of those fond memories from my misspent youth. I saw it in the theatre. My favourite lines are from the Stern segment…”He never did… anything that was… illegal…Unless you count all the times he sold dope disguised as a nun!”

  3. And that trippy WWII Bomber segment in the middle was pretty awesome if I recall.

I loved the use of so many SCTV voices too. Yep, fond memories for me too on this one.

  4. Go figure. Heavy Metal is too “risqué” for Paramount.
