I can’t believe that with the general love around here for Timur Bekmambetov’s “Watch” series, we have yet to post a trailer for his upcoming English language juggernaut Wanted. Starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Terence Stamp and Morgan Freeman this is a comic book adaptation in which McAvoy plays a joe blow who is transformed “into an unparalleled enforcer of justice” (that last bit care of IMDb).
All I know is that I have a soft spot for both McAvoy and Bermambetov and frankly, this movie could get massacred by critics and fanboys alike and I’d still be there opening day.
A new fancy trailer has come along and it’s a mix of footage from the first trailer, new footage and McAvoy looking super sexy. Sorry, it’s the girl in me coming out again.
Wanted opens on June 28th. That’s 106 days and counting.
Check out the trailer under the seat or the in HD over at MySpace (if you can figure out how to see it without logging in).

Personally I just rolled my eyes at almost every turn when I saw the trailer for this. It has a premise that FEELS like we’ve seen it a million times (although in variations, obviously) and the dialogue and ridiculous action is laughable, eye-rolling and just ludicrous in almost every way. Even the strong cast (my love for Morgan Freeman, increasing like for McAvoy, and Jolie…..well that should be obvious:P…) can’t stop me from foreseeing a movie that sucks. Having said that in the words of Lt. Jim Gordon from Batman Begins, “But I’ve been wrong before….”
I like Bekmambetov (his family comedy in russian release at the moment tore up the box-office of his homeland)
But this looks oh so lame. In particular Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman looking bored and fattened with an easy paycheck. McAvoy leaves me cold.
but Bekmambetov has a way with making fun CGI set-pieces, so there may be a guilty pleasure hidden amongst the yawning.
Well his over-the-top action and fantasy set pieces totally worked in the Watch films but I don’t think it works when the story isn’t fantasty based. Sometimes over-the-topness (my made up word for the day:P) can work wholly in a film’s favour but just the vibe I’m getting from the footage of this leaves me embarassed, to be completely honest.
I’m with you Ross. I’m with you.
Great minds think alike:)
- Zodiac – One of 07′s best movies
- Inland Empire – Favourite movie of 07
- Death Proof = awesome movie
….see? (:P)
I don’t know you guys; I think this looks like it could be some fun here. I’m sure it’s got some cheesiness in there, but the over top ridiculousness of the whole thing might actually be what makes it fun.
Doesn’t look as interesting as the “Watch” series, but it looks a helluva lot better than Hitman ever did.
You guys are killing me. Like Andrew speculates, I think this is going to be fun. It’s bound to be better than some of the other big blockbusters. But the “Hitman” reference…. dude. It wasn’t great but “Hitman” was tons of fun for me. I’m looking forward to adding that one to the collection. Can you say “Guilty pleasure?”
I’m torn on this, as it really didn’t feel like I saw anything original from the preview but I don’t think I’ll be able to pull myself away from going to see it. Guilty pleasure sounds right on the mark to me…
I’ve read the graphic novel and I’d say “loosely” is the word that needs to precede “based on.” Still a little odd seeing McAvoy and Jolie in the roles that were *clearly* drawn to represent Eminem and Halle Berry in the book.
Think it will be a fun action flick, but all that fake looking CGI kinda takes me out of it. I’ll still probably see it though, but I think I might wait for DVD.
I like the posters:
Yeah, those posters are sweet. I wonder if they’ll keep the IESB logo when they hit the market.
HAHAHAHHA
Smart ass.
