Not surprisingly 1/2 the teaser is clips from the original trilogy. The new stuff looks like a lot of fun (Cate Blanchet in the mod-haircut is awesome!).
Yet it also feels like a greatest-hits package nostalgia-pandering (which is what it is, really). Each of the original 3 had their own look, the teaser feels like an amalgamation of that, maybe that is just clever trailer editing to get the juices flowing though. Hard to judge from 30 second.
Also, the big ‘indoor car chase’ sequence….is that the warehouse that closes Raiders of the Lost Ark? I’d bet good money that it is.
Ford looks like he sells the funny/resigned/bitter/ah-well old man Indy though (“It’s not going to be as easy as it used to be”). That was a pleasant surprise.
(Who am I kidding though, I’ll be there, first day, despite my trepidation/cynicism/etc.)
“FRAKKIN’ GNARLY!” Appropriate expression in light of Indy4, blending together an outdated ’80′s expression (gnarley) with a distinctly rebranded 21st century word (Frakkin’).
lazy but effective. Nothing wrong with that. It let the writers get around the censors anyway. Got no issue with the expression, but I try not to use it in public
Okay, I hated the bit with the quip after swinging back into the truck but I have to admit when the music picked up at the end I did have goosebumps.
My biggest worry as they will go too far with the old age comedy. One or two good jokes will be fine if the every action scene references his age it will get way too annoying.
@John – that’s exactly what irked me too. Kinda funny, but I hope the whole film isn’t chock full of that stuff or the everything may be ruined.
Besides that minor quibble, I LOVE this trailer. I’ve watched it about 5 times now and it screams Indy tradition. Harrison Ford may indeed be back. Indy certainly looks to be.
Looking around the web, others seem to be equally happy with it.
There still remains a fair bit of trepidation out there too. Sean Dwyer over at filmjunk is sketchy, as are a few other folks….This is probably always the case with a ‘delayed sequel’…
I’m still very cautious about getting my hopes up.
I just watched the trailer. I cried. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I don’t care if they insert one too many one liners or old man jokes. Spielberg is going to do a fantastic job on this. Once they got it rolling I think they all knew how much they’ve been missing out on. It’s going to be amazing.
I’m pretty sure Spielberg is smart enough not to overuse the old man jokes. They DEFINITELY need to reference it, but I have faith they won’t overdue it. And yes, Kurt, I’m pretty confident that that is the warehosue from the end of Raiders (did you notice how when Blanchett is looking at some case it says “Roswell, New Mexico – 1947″?
I’ve watched this ten times already. I better go watch it again.
I also read over on ABC News the other day that John Rhys-Davies WILL be in this as Sallah… I haven’t read it anywhere else though, so hopefully its just not an error on their part.
The name of this comment thread should be “…or how I leaned to stop worrying and learned to love Indy 4.” People quit the worries. Lucas, Spielberg, and Ford. Everythings fine. Great trailer.
Wow, in a rare fit of multiple agreements with Henrik in a single day:
After seeing the anger-inducing (albeit ambitious) failure of A.I. I want Spielberg’s water as far as possible from Kubrick’s oil, thank you very much.
Watching Harrison closely – seems to be his own stunts per usual and he really hasn’t aged that much. I’m sure make-up and a dash of CGI probably does wonders, but that’s fine. It/he looks great.
Kurt, I found parts of A.I. really interesting – and this is coming from a pretty big skeptic, who didn’t even bother watch ing the movie until this past yet. In the end, I was left somewhat unsatisfied, but it had its moments.
While this is just my opinion, of course, anyone that shrugs Spielberg off as no more than a fluff director is just an idiot. His done his fair share of silliness, sure, but the man is a god, an f’n brilliant filmmaker.
As for the trailer again, after more viewings, I have very few problems with it. I’m a little worried that there might be more CGI than Spielberg originally promised in this, but I’ll leave that be until I actually see the final product.
It’s Harrison Fords face put onto the stunt double Andrew. He is doing his own stunts the same way that Christopher Lee did the lightsaber action in the Star Wars films.
I WANT to like this film.. but I don’t think I’ll be be able to get over the fact that Harrison is.. well.. OLD.
In my mind, Indy will always be that young, vibrant hero that I saw a saw as a kid.
There is something to be said for letting classic things of a certain time and place remain there forever.
Watching this trailer made me feel a little sad inside, not only for Harrison, but for the reminder that my own youth slips away year by year, and the images and memories that forged my childhood are locked away in time, never to return.
Fuckin’ RIGHT ON(!) Jonathan. I’m more excited about this project by the day. I can only imagine your anticipation. You’re going to have to quell it a little bit though or the high expectations are going to let you down. It’s probably inevitable anyway.

Best line of the trailer. Indy’s always had a good sense of humor, but hopefully it’s not a movie full of one liners.
I have to admit I’m getting chills though. I don’t think I’m going to be let down. This looks pretty FRAKKIN’ GNARLY!

Stupid Firewall at work. Can’t see trailer.
Frakking has to be the most lazy screenwriting-invention ever. In all of history. Since forever.

I’ve been on he “Let’s wait and see” bandwagon but I must admit, I liked what I saw, particularly the old man bits. Pretty funny.
And Blanchett…that woman is fantastic.
@John – that’s exactly what irked me too. Kinda funny, but I hope the whole film isn’t chock full of that stuff or the everything may be ruined.

I’m also excited because it looks like there’s a lot of bullwhip usage. Swinging from lamps and such off of moving vehicles. That’s going to be great.

I was just going to mention the Roswell bit…. Very interesting.

Lets not taint Kubricks memory by mixing him even more together with Steven Spielberg.

Just watched again for the ump-teenth time.

The guy running on the crates looks a little weird, but everything else is either all Harrison or one HELLUVA look-a-like.

Crap. I wish we could edit these comments, because I never fail to screw up my typing. Case in point, the comment above is riddled with mistakes.
Screw proofreading!
Too old, my ass:

I gotta say, that picture’s pretty sweet.
