• Vanity Fair Recreates Hitchcock

Alright, these are just plain cool. Vanity Fair had a recent photoshoot with some of today’s most popular stars where they recreated classic scenes from some of Alfred Hitchcock’s most iconic films. They’re all pretty awesome, but my favorites have to be Seth Rogen in North by Northwest, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. in To Catch a Thief, and Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in Rear Window. The others include Keira Knightley and Jennifer Jason Leigh in Rebecca, Emile Hirsch and James McAvoy in Strangers on a Train, Charlize Theron in Dial M For Murder, Naomi Watts in Marnie, Rene Zellweger in Vertigo, Jodie Foster in The Birds, and lastly Tang Wei, Josh Brolin, Casey Affleck, Eva Marie Saint, Ben Foster, Omar Metwally and Julie Christie in Lifeboat. This has to be one of the coolest photoshoots I’ve ever seen.

I’ve posted them all below, JUST CLICK ANY IMAGE if you’re looking for some big enough to use as wallpaper – and you can see the original post over at /Film.

Wow. Those ARE fantastic. And wow, Naomi Watts and Rene Zellwege are nearly unrecognizable!

  2. Andrew James says:

You can now click these images for the hi-res versions. I rule.

  3. Jonathan says:

    Beautiful, Andrew. Just beautiful!

  4. Andrew James says:

I LOVE the Lifeboat one. Some of my favorite actors from the past year. And I SWEAR that is Tim Roth in the background with the spotlight; even though he’s not listed in the credits.

  5. Marina Antunes says:

Oh sweet lord. Even better! Now I’ll have to set these up as rotating screen savers…until something better comes along! ;)

  6. Roy Power says:

    Those are absolutely AWESOME

  7. Henrik says:

Scarlett Johansson is acceptable as Grace Kelly, but Seth Rogen is nowhere near acceptable as Cary Grant.

  8. Roy says:

These are fantastic! Thanks for posting!

  9. Grace says:

    I LOVE Robert Downey Jr.

    These are wonderful.
But I have just one question: Why is Jodie Foster a star? She’s an awful actress; she’s hideous; and sh smells like an thirteen day old dirty diaper..

  12. ralph says:

Jodie Foster was really good in Taxi Driver. after that, annoying

  13. caitgo says:

seriously? vanity fair releases one of the most original homages to Hitchcock, artfully portraying his masterpieces using today’s biggest stars without giving them more than an ounce of publicity and people are going to say that jodie foster smells like a 13 day old dirty diaper?

    come on. that’s so unnecessary.

  14. TrixRabbi says:

Rear Window was already recreated. It starred Shia Lebouf.

  15. Essi says:

That is awesome! Thanks for the post!

Free publicity ? They don’t need it. Free vanity more like, trying to attain some iconic status they know never will.
I object to the comments on Jodie Foster simply because I doubt the writer has got close enough to her to smell her, and she plays a miserable, downtrodden dried-up old sec adequately. I suspect homophobia. She has plenty of money to buy any number of babies so the diaper smell could be justified.

Now this is what photoshop is all about. Even if it wasn’t done on it, this is what I dream of doing with it! What an awesome job on the pictures! Great website as well!

  22. Pixie says:

Canada Lee was part of “Life Boat”. Where is he?

  23. Jules says:

wow..great fun!! blast from the past

  24. To me Hitchcock was maybe the greatest director of his age and it makes me enjoy Hollywood a little bit more when they honor him in the manner showed in those images. Now I want to see the Birds with Jodi Foster

  25. Joe van Wyk says:

VERY VERY AWESOME – I can just imagine remakes – great cast selection. HITCHCOCK WAS AND STILL IS LEGENDARY !!!!!! But if they ever do a remake of one of his spectacular films, they should do it word for word angle for angle. No other outside influence.

  26. ceallaig says:

re remaking Hitch ‘word for word, angle for angle’ — Gus van Sant tried that already with Psycho …. it didn’t work so well. His films should simply be left alone, period.

  27. Amy Jordan says:

Wow. Some of these are really bad. The Lifeboat one is the worst. They don’t even attempt to make it look from that period. It looks so 80’s. Wasn’t there a black man in that film? The one chance to have a black man one of the photos and they are denied the chance. Gwyneth Paltrow and perhaps Charlize Theron are the only ones that come close to fitting the look of the actors they are trying to portray. The set-up for the Rebecca photo was just a disappointment all around.
