• Swank Flying High

Hilary Swank as Amelia EarhartSince I’m posting about crushes today, here’s an uber-talented actress that has made some stellar film choices in the past (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby, The Gift, Freedom Wirters) earning her Oscar statues. But for each one of these she makes a Reaping or a Black Dahlia. So I get interested in when she announces a new project. Case in point: Amelia.

Swank actually signed on to play legendary pilot Amelia Earhart early last year, but nothing has been talked about it since. I read today however that appropriately, a female director, Mira Nair (The Namesake), has been slated to helm the project, so it looks like the film is finally ready to take off.

Apparently the film will mostly focus on Amelia’s early career and I can only assume the film will climax with her historic flight across the Atlantic. Which makes me sort of wishing that they’d turn this into an epic and go even further with it. Maybe hypothesizing on Earhart’s mysterious disappearance; something that’s always intrigued me.

Swank has been hit and miss with me but I love Mira Nair, is always consistently good.

“The Namesake” is such a tragically under seen little film. Makes me a bit sad.

Just read that Virginia Madsen has signed on in a small part for this film as well. Things are looking up. Get it? looking up? Haha.

Looks like Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor are in there as well. Some new photos over at /Film.
