• Harrelson, Hopper and Theron in Sleepwalking Trailer

Take a first time director (Bill Maher) add a great cast including Charlize Theron, Dennis Hopper, Woody Harrelson, AnnaSophia Robb (the creepy, big eyed bubble gum chewing Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Nick Stahl (of Terminator 3 fame), add a dash of rehashed story and you get Sleepwalking.

The film follows a young girl’s struggle to come to terms with her mother’s abandonment and, along the way, helping her uncle get over his own issues with his father. Doesn’t sound particularly appealing but if one looks beyond the crummy overused music in the trailer, it looks like it may be worthwhile, if only for the performances.

Sleepwalking opens in limited release on March 14th.

Wow, this looks like totaly Hollywood, cheese-ball sentimentality. The weird thing is, I bet it’s really good. Like you said, if nothing else than for the performances. The music sucks, but all the visuals look good and I really like Nick Stahl.

The girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks like she can really hold her own as well.

  2. Yeah, she’s gotten a lot of attention, especially after her performance in “Bridge to Tarabithia” (which I didn’t see). She certainly seems to have talent but I have to admit that she still creeps me out.

Well, saw this last night. Nothing Oscar worthy but I liked it.

It’s got a great visual sense and direction. Lots of it reminded me of northern Minnesota in late November – very dreary, barren and windswept.

Nick Stahl was awesome in this. Every moment he’s on screen (which is about 95% of the film) it’s worth watching. And we right about the little girl. She holds her own very well.

Some of it is a bit overly melodramatic (Theron in particular, but she is good at it) towards the end, but for the most part, a good movie to curl up with late at night and enjoy the performances and the feel.
