Vancouver Event: Special Screening of Carl Bessai’s Normal

February 6th, 2008
Written By: Marina Antunes

Normal Movie StillAdmission: I only know Carl Bessai’s work by reputation but it’s a pretty reputable reputation and from the looks of his new film, it’s also well deserved.

Normal, which stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Kevin Zegers and Callum Keith Rennie, focuses on a group of unrelated people and how they deal with the emotional fallout of a deadly car accident. The trailer looks quite good and I’ve been really impressed with Moss’ choices since her Hollywood breakout in the The Matrix films and she seems to be continuing her upswing trend here. Add in the great Rennie (who many may recognize as a familiar face from many a Canadian production) and you’ve got the makings of a winner.

The film opens in Toronto and Vancouver on February 8th and Vancouverites will be privy to a very special event. The First Weekend Club has put together a special live Talkback with Carl Bessai and members of the cast on Saturday, February 9th at Tinseltown following the 1:30PM screening. You can purchase your tickets for the film in advance (highly recommended), via Cinemark.

The After the Credits crew will be in attendance and bringing you all the juicy details early next week.

  1. Oh, that is fantastic - have a great time I can’t wait to hear about it on After the Credits!

I saw Normal during TIFF 07 and it has some great perfomances in it. I saw the trailer again last night and it was quite strong.

  2. I saw this at TIFF too and was very pleasantly surprised. I admit I only went to see it because I’d heard comparisons to Paul Haggis’ Crash, which is the WORST MOVIE EVER, and I didn’t believe another movie could possibly be that bad. Thankfully, it is nothing like Crash. Great performances all around, I was especially impressed with Kevin Zegers, who has not taken the Hollywood Pretty Face route to stardom. Watch for the sex scene he has in this movie: equal parts erotic and disturbing! That’s all I’ll say …

  3. TWO positive recommendations now has me all excited!

Ashley - you really scared me with the Haggis comparison for a second and then I read on. Thank god it’s not the same as Crash. I REALLY dislike that film.

  4. Just found out that in addition to the Talkbalk on Saturday after the 1:30 screening there will also be a Q&A after the 7:45 show on Friday night.
