• First Look: Neil, Hawke & Dafoe in Daybreakers

Two German born directors, a cast of Hollywood stars and Australian financing make up the pieces of the upcoming vampire film Daybreakers.

I was pretty excited when it was announced that Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil and Willem Dafoe had all signed on for the film to be directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, about a plague that had transformed nearly every human into vampires. IMDb goes on to explain:

Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind. A researcher (Hawke) works with a covert group of vamps to a band of humans fight back.

So I’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t new and frankly, it sounds oddly reminiscent of the recent I Am Legend and even Blade but I like these actors, I like the premise and I love the look of these pictures – except for the eyes. Not sure I’m digging the green/yellow thing they’ve got going on.

Daybreakers is scheduled for release in September. Thanks to Collider for the great photos.

Nice. Wasn’t a huge fan of Undead, but I’m sure with a bigger budget and with these actors signed on, this will likely be a whole lot better.

Bitchin’ is the word that comes to mind.

I didn’t see “Undead”. Is it even worth a rental?

I like Dafoe as well. These pictures have me intrigued, which is good considering I hadn’t heard of this before.

I liked the Spierig Brother’s UNDEAD as a fun little throw-away. It’s an entertaining enough first effort considering the restraints these guys were working with first time around. It borrows too heavily from other films and suffers in the originality dept in most things, but it’s not atrocious or anything.

I’m definitely looking foward to DAYBREAKERS.

I worked on this film as an extra and it was good fun! William defoe is awesome to work with he’s a really down to earth guy who hasn’t let it go to his head. others were not so much like that. I’m looking forward to it especially my scenes :-p. P.s. also agree that UNDEAD was definately not the best movie I’d ever seen but they had no budget so give them credit

Ha. That picture of Sam Neil looks like Jack Nicholson with his eyes and eyebrows like that.
