So I’m checking out the list of this week’s releases and among the few worth watching I come across a new offering from Vin Diesel. At least it looks like a new offering…except that it’s not.

To my great surprise, before he ever made a name for himself as an actor (but well after the break dancing stint), Diesel took to working behind the camera writing, directing and even staring in a film. Strays is a coming of age story of a NY teen and worry not folks, we’re not going to see Diesel as a teenager (he plays the drug dealer).

I like Diesel as an action star and heck, I even enjoyed seeing him mix things up a bit in Sidney Lumet’s Find Me Guilty, but I’m curious to see what else he’s capable of and though it doesn’t initially look like directing might be it, I’m willing to give it a chance. Definitely a rental for my next trip to the video store.
