• David Lynch’s iPhone Un-commercial

Because around here, Lynch is pretty much god-like and let’s face it, deep down, we all want to see iWHATEVER give up its stronghold on the world.

Take the thirty seconds and just watch it already. The best short clip of 2008 (so far) comes to us care of Twitch.

I love that he says “fucking” with such distaste.

  2. Another Mike says:

There’s very little I don’t love about this. Actually, 98% of the love come from Lynch. Remember, this is the man who lobbied for Laura Dern to get an Oscar nom by sitting outside with a cow.

Just for Fun, here are a collection of nice YouTube Excerpts on the ‘wavy-haired one’s other exploits:

Holy shit! That video of Trancendental Meditation gone Awry is scary and hysterical all at once!

And the Gucci commercial is one of my faves.

  5. Linda says:

This is a perfect example of why I love David Lynch!

  6. Henrik says:

    Groundbreaking…

  7. Kurt says:

(As is your unique brand of sarcasm (If I’m reading you correct) Henrik) :)

  8. Henrik says:

Yeah well, I don’t release videos of my not-so-groundbreaking sarcasm… Though I probably would if I knew people would go nuts for it. David Lynch is allowed to do this I guess, I just don’t see why anybody would care when he has nothing to say.

I did a bizarre thing last night and bought Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, a film I have been on record as detesting ever since I saw it theatrically. After my glowing enthusiasm for Inland Empire and after recently visiting the surreal landscapes of Los Angeles I feel if ever there was a time when I could accept MD then this would be it.

Just curious if anyone else has ever made a dramatic turnaround on an opinion of a film…

I only wish I could see the greatness everyone is claiming There Will Be Blood to be.

I made several attempts to watch Fellini’s 8 1/2 when I was younger. Maybe it was the maturity of the subject matter, my lack of experience, or just bad VHS quality.

But when I sat down with the Criterion DVD, it literally blew my mind.

  11. Kurt Halfyard says:

Henrik – I also believe a filmmaker is entitled to his opinion (sarcasm or not) of how the medium he works in is changing. Lynch isn’t going to change too many peoples watching habits, but it’s good to know he is out there futilely fighting nonetheless.

  12. rot says:

I forgot to answer my own question… while I did not entirely hate Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line the first time I saw it I did find it pretentious and bloated… the second viewing I saw none of that and recognized it as the masterpiece it is.

I’m thinking Lynch films can operate in this same way, if you are outside the experience you are really outside it, you see all the flaws, but when he has you on an emotional level it changes everything… he has an all or nothing approach to filmmaking that can galvanize. to not understand a Lynch film is to be the only sober person at a party.

“to not understand a Lynch film is to be the only sober person at a party.”

As someone who has been on both sides of this equation, a salute this astute analogy!

This is an ad isnt it? The production values on this segment don’t match the red drape w/mic set interviews on the dvd set that they say this is taken from…..do they? Ive only seen clips from those interviews and prod-wise are quite different. Plus you can see him almost crack up as he’s doing the closeup.
