Henrik - heartily agree. Apparently they filmned right until the time of print but some of the events unfolded a little too late. I'm really curious to see if there's anything new on the DVD because it sounds like they followed the Mitchell / Wiebe even after the film was released.

This movie was real fun. I loved the in-detail analysis of the game itself, and showing how you need l33t math skillz to beat it, and the whole mythology around the death screen etc. Good stuff!

Ending was weak though. The climax is not shown, which is a shame.

Steve Weibe
Donkey Kong High Score
One Cool Dude

This Docu was frak'n brilliant. I was happy, angry, confused, amused, traumatized, and energized. All for a film about adult men playing a 25 year old video game. Now thats impressive. I will agree with Marina, in that I wonder how much of the Mitchell person was colored by editing. He is a tragic person, but its a matter of how tragic. Mitchell did things that were so nasty and low I felt like flying down to Hollywood, Florida and bitch slapping the guy in the new millennium.

@ Mike rot Robert Mitchell held the high score record from 1982 till recent years. No one had even come close to his record. The old 80's stuff your saw were actually news clips of an ultimate gamer play off. Robert Mitchell is a thing of the past, and Steve Weibe is the man of the present.

To steal the comment Marina made during the film

The old arcade games are actually much harder then new games. The old games are meant to be unbeatable, while new games are designed so that almost anyone who buys them can beat them. Donkey Kong is considered the hardest game ever made, which is why it is THE game people play to prove how good a gamer they are.

I'm definately checking this out. I am a bit confused though, this is a present-day documentary about people who play the classic version of Donkey Kong? There are a few clips in the trailer that would make you think that this doc is from the eighties. You would think that people who claim to be the best video game players would progress to more complicated recent games. Control with the old atari and old arcade games was pretty weak. Try wielding one of these twenty button behemoths now.

I hold the title for best super nintendo super mario kart player... in my own mind.
